Evidence of learning Living world

Evidence of learning, living world immersion 1/6/17

For immersion the class has been looking at energy. The first cycle for my immersion group has been the living world. We are conducting a fair test around germinating seeds and what happens with different conditions. We had to choose a partner as well, so I chose Aart. We then had to write an experiment plan and a diagram explaining what we were going to do and what we were going to change. Once that had happened and we had checked, the teacher (Felicity) we did that, we grabbed two cups and filled them up with dirt followed by a bean seed.

We have also looked at what makes things alive or not. We used a key for the living, nonliving called MRS GREN. Each letter stands for a thing that all living things do. M is move. R is reproduce. S is sense. G is grow. R is respire (breathe). E is excrete (fart) and N is nutrition. We then looked at a classification key known as the dichotomous key. This is the key isn’t specific to anything and is a loose way to identify animals. It starts with one question usually a yes/no question like does it have legs. It then branches out to different side which has more question until you can’t go anymore. Each question only has two options.

25/5/17 follow up

Amy 25/5/17 follows up.

  1. What is a fair test? A fair test is a test in which nothing is affected by undeliberate variables
  2. What is an independent variable? An independent variable is what you change in an experiment
  3. What is a dependent variable? the dependent variable is what you measure at the end of an experiment
4. What is a control group? The group in an experiment that does not receive treatment by the conductors and is then used as a benchmark to measure how the other tested subjects do.

Calm down spot reflection

Project reflection

My projects experience has been varied. Sometimes it was productive others not so much. Throughout this time I faced barriers; arguably the biggest was the group I was working in.

Nikolai and Cole (my group members) could be very helpful when focused but when they weren’t things went south. The last time we met we couldn’t get anything done because they were mucking around and being immature by typing rude and inappropriate things into the end of the survey. When they were off task it was bad but when they were on task they would work efficiently and it was a pleasure to work with them.

If I had to do projects again  I would like to be harder on my group to get things done and would be more organized.  I would have liked to have more results as I only got 50% of what was anticipated (140 people) but the results were a good representation (probably).
